FANTASTIC FIELD TRIPS!

Teachers, make the Museum your classroom for a day!

The Virginia Museum of Transportation offers fun, hands-on, interdisciplinary opportunities for SOL-aligned field trips that support what you are teaching in the classroom.  Our collection of locomotives and other rail equipment, vintage wagons, buggies, and automobiles offers an engaging opportunity for teaching History and Science SOLS, plus Language Arts, Math and Safety.

Our docents have been specially trained to support SOL instruction for kindergarten through third grade students, but can answer questions for any age group. They have an entertaining style and the real-world experience that brings the past to life. We can also customize field trips for special needs groups.

Bus parking is available, and groups bringing their own lunches can schedule our lunch room or picnic area, weather permitting.

To discuss ways we can help you, or to schedule a visit, please email Education Coordinator Courtney Carter Plaster or call 540-342-5670 ext. 108.

We invite educators and their immediate family to a free pre-view visit. Please print and bring in the educator information form. Be prepared to show your school identification badge.

The Virginia Museum of Transportation's Education Program is funded in part by the Roanoke City Arts Commission.
